Sigur Ros - Ekki Múkk

Uhhhh, sorry for the sorta long hiatatus. Anywho! Sigur Ros is back, you guys! Yes, forreal everyone's 2nd favorite Icelandic isolationist, who compose the most orchestral/beautiful music in the world are back! :)

They're set to drop a new album May 28 and just unleashed a new track for us all to ponder. Its a slow one, (surprise, surprise) but its really a return to form for Jonsi & the gang. Theres lots of strings, pitched vocals and what sounds like a choir of eunuchs, but its all sort of reminiscent of early Ros, circa Ágætis byrjun. Check it out, while bathing in a pool of mud under the dormant volcano and the Aurora Borealis.

Sigur Ros Spinnnnah

Icelando golden boys do it again, by hitting up Spinner recently to lay down a sick performance. Everyone knows they're a killer live act (me especially!) but its always nice to hear Sigur rock. They do 4 songs and an interview. Here's "Við Spilum Endalaust," which Spinner has moronically mislabeled "Fljotavik." Peep it:

And this one ("Illgresi") is aweful purtty too:

"Með Suð Í Eyrum" en France

La Blogothèque is that cool site that started the trend of having the hippest bands play sort-of acoustic shows in odd but cool locations (think Sufjan on a roof or Arcade Fire in an elevator). Well it was only a matter of time before your 2nd favorite Icelandic musicians hit the blog/show. Here Sigur Ros play an awkward but very good version of their single "Með Suð Í Eyrum," in an upscale French restaurant. Les Francais seem a bit weirded-out but in a good way. The clip's got lots of close up shots and too many pianos in the kitchen. Peep it!:

Sigur Rós at the Psychedelic Palace

Last week I mentioned I went and saw Sigur Ros at Alexandra Palace and it was Uh-mazin, so I wanted to follow up that mention with some sweet pics and a saaweet vid! Yeah the show was great. Opener, For A Minor Reflection are an Iceland based band as well and they killed it with an all instrumental set featuring guitar work reminiscent of Sigur Ros and Explosions in the Sky. Check em out here if you want: http://www.myspace.com/foraminorreflection ..After they ripped it up for awhile the Choir Boy and Co. finally hit the stage. They opened their set with an amazing rendition of "Svefn-G-Englar," followed by "Glosoli," and "Ný Batterí." "Gobbledigook" and "Hoppípolla" were in there too, but what really added to the show were the amazing psychedelic visuals, the sheet/wall of rain during some crescendo, and the confetti canons during the encore. Yes it was a quite a night and to give ya a good sense of it all here are some nifty shots I nicked from another blogger who likes to be referred to as crazybobbles, theres also a couple of my own as well...So thanks for the pics bobbles it was indeed a hot gig!

And just for good measure heres an awesome vid of "Svefn-G-Englar," with good sound quality as well:
