Lust For Youth - Sudden Ambitions (video)

Here's a new clip from the Swedish darkwave connoisseurs, Lust for Youth. Preparing for their new LP, Compassion, out tomorrow, LFY have been peppering the web with infectious singles. Sudden Ambitions, feels very Lust For Youth. The mid tempo appregiators, the baritone drawl, and trebbly bass reminiscent of New Order, are all hallmark qualities of recent tracks from the group. What makes Lust for Youth most interesting is not their effortless ability to recreate goth-pop music from the 80s, but more their continued production of solid, head-bob worthy, pop tunes. The vacancy left in their music allows for icy stabs to really undulate through the melody, and singer Hannes Norrvide’s voice to command the listeners attention. This is a group that will surely continue to grow its audience. I'd watch for them to be playing much larger stages this summer and into the future. The video here has a very Tough Alliance vibe, with shadowy projections against the band, and a fascination with team swiming. Have a gander:

New Order - Tutti Frutti (Hot Chip remix)

Hot Chip spin one of New Order's latest tunes into a web of truth and club-banging. Lying somewhere between Pet Shop Boys and Giorgio Moroder, Tutti Frutti is an extra fun dance track with expansive synths and intricately laced drum samples. Like a sticky, dry-ice cloud enveloping the dance-floor, Hot Chip have deconstructed the track and rebuilt it stronger, and heavier. Like an extended Depeche Mode cut or the danciest breakdown off Kid A, this remix carries on with a hypnotic pulse, not unfamiliar to Disco, and Darkwave, but what else should we expected? It IS Hot Chip. Dude. Get into the groove:

Broken Social Scene - Golden Facelift (video)

The end of last year saw the release of several significant songs, one of them being this previously unreleased track from Broken Social Scene. This somber ballad lies somewhere between New Order and maybe Sonic Youth, climaxing in an epic clatter of yelps and distortion. Fittingly the clip features a reel of beautiful shots of life around the globe, juxtaposed with some of the most terrible things to have occurred in 2014. Its hard to look away, even during that yucky eyelid scene. Check it out, this one sucks you in:

Craft Spells + New Order meets The National? Pretty much. Motorama thresh out an excessively catchy tune that transcends the sum of their influences.

Holy Ghost! - Okay

So much about Holy Ghost! does not work at all. They're vintage synth purists, choosing to revel in antiquated electronics over a more contemporary drum and bass sound; and while yes, many artists are living in the past these days, Holy Ghost! are fairly unique in their hifi aping of a Depeche Mode/New Order/Ministry tonality. On top of this, Alex Frankel is a criminally middle of the road vocalist, often veering out of pitch and out his element. Lyrically Frankel is equally simplistic and straight forward. Yet, despite all their disparities, I find myself fully encamped in the Holy Ghost! camp-grounds. Why? why? WHY???? Its easy to hate on a band like Holy Ghost, they sorta look like blow-holes (lets be real), but their music is dope. Okay is another outstanding single that utilises sounds from the heyday of synthetic pop to a masterful degree. The hooks here are plentiful! And the juicy, metallic, orchestra stabs are sooooooo Depeche Mode circa Some Great Reward. Earworm commin atcha:

New Order - Round and Round

When the Earth does falls under the New World Order, and we're all enslaved by the lizard people, I hope they at least appoint Bernard Sumner as the new Emperor. This week I'm delving into the deepest crevasses of Third Rock's greatest electro-group of all time. Yes, my love for New Order is undying. I'd shout it from the tallest mountains and lowest valleys - the rolling rivers and flowering meadows. Why? Well, duh they're super terrific, always have been, and they just kicked off an epic US tour, with Holy Ghost!, I might add (see you at Williamsburg waterfront tonight?) Anyway, its just one of those weeks, when Joy Division just won't do, so throw on some Substance and say, "Woohoo!" This is an extended 7" version of Round and Round, one of the singles from Technique. Check it now

Holy Ghost! - Teenagers In Heat

If ever there was a song(and band) that was biting a tremendous chunk out of New Order (in the best possible way!) its Holy Ghost!. Currently the BK duo are plowing through a a string of US tour dates supporting New Order, (and they'll both be rockin the park in Williamsburg next week wutttupppppp!!!). Later in the summer we'll be treated to HG's new LP, but until then here's a new single! No doubt, you've already heard this song on the most recent mixtape from CitiesInDust , but I was bumpin this jam this morning and felt the need to throw it up as well. This is one of the poppiest songs the group has yet released, and really it feels so right. So plug those earbuds in, bud..cuz really we're all just teenagers at heart...and right now in the heat, too!

OMD - So In Love

The vastly underrated and mostly only known for their Breakfast Club song, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark are about to release a new album this month. So it seems only fair that we all take a look back at one of their classic clips! Sadly, OMD never gained the sort of fame reached by similar acts like Depeche Mode, or New Order, yet their sound was often just as accessible if not more. "So In Love," comes from their album Crush. Released in 85' it was not as strong a record as earlier releases like Architecture & Morality or Dazzle Ships, yet this song is undeniably a banger. Let your ears set sail on a beautiful ocean of love and synthesizers!

Young Glaxay - New Summer

Montreal based, New Order fiending, Young Galaxy drop the third track from their upcoming LP, Ultramarine. This 80s tinged slow burner comes complete with spacey snares and a ping pongie bass line, not unlike a track you might find on M83's Saturdays = Youth. It may not bang as hard as their first 2 singles, but when the chorus drops you get a strong urge to do some serious slomo head bobbin. Check it:

Class Actress - "Bienvenue"

What can you say about this gal? Class Actress is one class act. Her album last year was a bangore. I would play that thing all the way through, without skipping tracks, or shuffling it with other albums on itunes. No joke.

Anywho, this new jam is a goodie. More guitar based, sorta like her older, also hot "Let Me Take You Out." This song chugs along like an early New Order tune, with that high on the neck bass sound, and spaced out synths glistering around CA's voice. Really into the sexy deep voice to ethereal falsetto thing she does here. Shit is rull good. Peep this jam. The vid is kinda cool, nothing amazing. Mr. Handsome and CA sex it up in Paris ~~sigh~~ >o<

True Faith

I forgot about this video, but then it found me again. Possibly the weirdest and bestest New Order flick features face slapping and synchronized jumping. (MY fav scene comes around 2:38.)
