Saâda Bonaire - You Could Be More As You Are

Rare and mysterious, early 80s neveau romantics, Saâda Bonaire, have been reanimated for a new Captured Tracks release. This track sounds like it could have been put out today by someone like Empress Of, or Geneva Jacuzzi, but in reality it was written many years ago! Bouncing brass synthesisers, over some jangling sitar + a Tom Tom Club-esque bassline = the right fucking disco song for Monday the 14th. Like a spider dancing on the strings of broken mandolin, left forgotten in the back green room of a steamy discotheque. Voila:

Empress Of - Tristeza

Another glittering diamond of a trizzy from one of my fav artists of 013. If you don't have it, you should cop Empress Of's Systems EP right now. If you're totally broke and can't afford an entire EP then have a listen, for free, to this dream-inducing, synthed-out soundscape. Sort of like an Italo This Mortal Coil.

Empress Of - Hat Trick

One of my favorite new acts these days, Empress Of continues to be Impress-Of. The Brooklynite's latest single is a whirling, kaleidscopic, magic-card theme head trip. Dripping with detuned brass synths and stumbling snares, this one really makes me weak in the knees. When it comes to female vocalists doing the woozy, Neu Wave thing EO seems to stand above others like Sleep ∞ Over, or Still Corners. So jump into this mud bucket and let the glittering slop consume you!
