Look Back in Anger: Captain & Tennille were a husband and wife, songwrting/ hitmaking duo, who endured a string of success throughout the 1970s. Riding the waves of Soft-Rolk, R&B, and a post-Beach Boys form of Pop, C& T pumped out a number of keyboard centric singles that contributed to the defining 'sound of the 70s.' The group carried on intermittently through the early 80s and 90s, inspiring countless other acts to utalize the synthesizer as a focal point for pop song construction. T. Rex - Metal Guru

Another monotonous Monday is upon us and so it is truly time to look back in anger. For today's installment I'd like to feature the Glam Queen himself, Mark Bolan aka T. Rex. Massive 70s rock icons, T. Rex erupted around the same time as Ziggy Stardust, and helped transform the UK's fixation from mod-culture to one more based around Glam. Metal Guru is one of those infectious jams, with an unrelenting chord progression that drills into your brain. The song has minimal changes and is carried by Bolan's effeminate, mumble-whine, vocal delivery. Truly a perfect rock anthem - and one that influenced countless other acts, including one group of super fans in particular, who were quick to borrow the melody and production style ;)

The Hollies - Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress

Sometimes its important to travel back into the past and live vicariously through ancient youtube clips. The Hollies were a group of Mancunian lads who arguably, were one of the first jangle-pop guitar groups to come out of the UK. Riding hard on the coattails of the Beatles and the Stones, they emerged with a completely indistinct 60s pop sounds, only to morph, later, into a 70s psychedelic, power-haus.
