The Westmorelands - Cutting Against The Grain

Look Back In Anger: Boston based unkowns, The Westmorelands were overly infectious, completely underheard dreamerswangers. Jangling Pop punk, that leans between R.E.M. and Thin Lizzy in some delicously bizare form, this band pressed all the right buttons. Oddly, there is no information on The Westmorelands or their one and only EP. Yet they have a tonal sensibility I just can't get enough of! - This is one of the few records I've been spinning on repeat as of late!

Sunflower Bean - 2013 (video)

Psychedelic Jangle spanglers, Sunflower Bean, are on some kind of roll and ain't no one kickin em off. Just saw their write up in The Voice (worth reading) and so its time we mention them here. Like the love child of Felt, Vivian Girls and possibly Spacemen 3, SB are genre mashers of the highest pedigree. Spinning weaves of intricate, chorus laden guitar, beneath bewitching basslines and hair-raising drum clatters, this is the type of shit I'm tryina hear. Vocally comparative to other C86ers, Sunflower keep their psychedelics grounded with focused pop melodies and harmonies. Check this out, right now:

The Jasmine Minks - Cold Heart

Look Back In Anger: It's a beautiful Monday, you must be pining some real jangley sort of tunage. Behond, The Jasmine Minks, early signees of Creation Records, who garnered some critical esteem, but ultimately faded into the fog of blisstory. They have a very lofi strummy sound that sits comfortably between The Clean and The Monochrome Set. Don't let this be last song you ever hear! Feel free, drop me line! Snowbird - Porcelain

The glittering flames that are the legacy of Cocteau Twins, have been rekindled with this haunting ballad by Snowbird. Stephanie Dosen, who's vocal territory is somewhere between Erica Foster and Elizabeth Fraser, joins former Cocteau Twins mastermind, Simon Raymonde. With this jam I keep hoping some spectre of a guitar is going to jangle into the foreground, but instead we get a few wisps of a piano, played beneath Dosen's voice. This is not a club banger, but it is pretty neat!

Cass McCombs - There Can Be Only One

Following in the path of previous jangling-folk Cass McCombs singles, TCBOO proves to be another hit! Melancholic wit + exceedingly pleasing guitar work = this new jam from the C man. If Jack Johnson was someone that anyone actually ever cared about listening to he might share the same navel as Cass McCombs, but that's it! Lissin. This is the new new from Big Wheel And Others:

The Hollies - Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress

Sometimes its important to travel back into the past and live vicariously through ancient youtube clips. The Hollies were a group of Mancunian lads who arguably, were one of the first jangle-pop guitar groups to come out of the UK. Riding hard on the coattails of the Beatles and the Stones, they emerged with a completely indistinct 60s pop sounds, only to morph, later, into a 70s psychedelic, power-haus. Creep deep into these 2 videos. One is a very early, and awkward pop performance, where Graham Nash bounds in front of the camera with a big a smile. The other is a much more controlled and brooding, technicolor capturing of Long Cool Woman in A Black Dress.' behold:

Part Time - I Won't Be Your Little Secret

Breezy, jangling, hang-out pop from one of my favorite Facebook Likes. Part Time is dropping new album, PDA, this summer and IWBYLS is the lead single. For fans of Mac DeMarco, Ariel Pink etc etccc. Lofi guitar tunes that are cool to put on for a makeout sesh.

Merchandise - Anxiety's Door

Merchandise's new EP Totale Nite is out this month and its worth returning to their first single from it, Anxiety's door. This is one of the best tracks from 013, and while the rest of the EP sort of meanders into different territory this song seems to stay on track as a murky pop emerald of a tune for your audio anklet. Don't hesitate to press play, especially if you've been jonsin for some janglin gittars.

Girls Names - Hypnotic Regression

This jingle jangle, post-punk, guitar warped, echo chambered, drone popper, is a true new neu wave ear tickler. Girls Names(w/ the world's worst band name), despite this track's title, have progressed from their fuzz-pop origins to a more intricate and accessible sound. Shedding the noise for dissonance and delay, GN seem to be channeling both Flock of Seagulls and Echo and the Bunnymen, without biting too much from either group. This is a rad tune, so give it a quick spin:
