Christopher Owens - Me Oh My

Christopher Owens has a new album and its really something to take note of! Chrissybaby Forever is a lovely smattering of generally upbeat, self reflecting, pop ballads, with some seriously groovin beats. Me Oh My is a stand-out jangle wrangler, with knowing nods to Felt in both structure and sound. There's a wandering guitar, some cheery organ, and Owen's dribbling rhyme. Are you looking for a good time? Oh, me, oh my, it must be summer's time!

Sunflower Bean - 2013 (video)

Psychedelic Jangle spanglers, Sunflower Bean, are on some kind of roll and ain't no one kickin em off. Just saw their write up in The Voice (worth reading) and so its time we mention them here. Like the love child of Felt, Vivian Girls and possibly Spacemen 3, SB are genre mashers of the highest pedigree. Spinning weaves of intricate, chorus laden guitar, beneath bewitching basslines and hair-raising drum clatters, this is the type of shit I'm tryina hear. Vocally comparative to other C86ers, Sunflower keep their psychedelics grounded with focused pop melodies and harmonies. Check this out, right now:

Twerps - Back To You (video)

Australian Indie rawkers, release this sunny, guitar pop, head bobber. Reminiscent of The Chills, Talulah Gosh, and Felt, Twerps are Indie purists; delving into the late 80s, and early 90s and having a good time while doing it! Back To You clocks in at just 2mins and 30 secs, the length Pop songs should be!

Close Lobsters - New York City In Space (video)

The overwhelmingly underrated and criminally underheard Close Lobsters, are back with a brand new single! New York City In Space trembles with familiarity, as the Lobsters reintroduce us to their warm hypnotic guitar layerings. It's a sleepy, dream-like single that unwinds behind Andrew Burnett's echoing Scotish drawl. It could easily be a restored lost cut from Headache Rhetoric, their last LP. Even if you never got into the whole C86 thing, or ever even heard What Is There To Smile About, you may find something pleasing in this tune. For fans of Galaxie 500, Felt, or any recent Captured Tracks singees:

Felt - Primitive Painters

For this week's installment of Look Back In Anger, we focus our feelers on Felt. Felt flew largely under the radar through most of the 80s and 90s, but proved to be hugely influential on modern day Indie/Post-Punk/guitar bands etc. Their sound falls somewhere between Close Lobsters, The Fall, and Cocteau Twins. For one of their more recogonizable songs, Felt enlisted some powerful back-up vox from Cocteau Twins' dreamstress, Elizabeth Fraser. Primitive Painters is both sleepy and driving with a heavy lacquering of jangley guitars, plus Lawrence Hayward's David Byrne-esque talk singing overtop of Fraser's mysterious ghost wails. Check it:
