Sunflower Bean - 2013 (video)

Psychedelic Jangle spanglers, Sunflower Bean, are on some kind of roll and ain't no one kickin em off. Just saw their write up in The Voice (worth reading) and so its time we mention them here. Like the love child of Felt, Vivian Girls and possibly Spacemen 3, SB are genre mashers of the highest pedigree. Spinning weaves of intricate, chorus laden guitar, beneath bewitching basslines and hair-raising drum clatters, this is the type of shit I'm tryina hear. Vocally comparative to other C86ers, Sunflower keep their psychedelics grounded with focused pop melodies and harmonies. Check this out, right now:

Bedfellows - Like A Hostage

Brooklyn post-punk aficionados, Bedfellows, churn up a stew of some seriously sweet guitar pop. Like A Hostage blends an early 80s via Orange Juice, Gang of Four, choppy guitar sound with a more modern Interpol-esque tone. This isn't unfamiliar territory, but it reminds me of Chameleons, or some other dark leaning guitar heavy act that we all know and love! Empress Of - Hat Trick

One of my favorite new acts these days, Empress Of continues to be Impress-Of. The Brooklynite's latest single is a whirling, kaleidscopic, magic-card theme head trip. Dripping with detuned brass synths and stumbling snares, this one really makes me weak in the knees. When it comes to female vocalists doing the woozy, Neu Wave thing EO seems to stand above others like Sleep ∞ Over, or Still Corners. So jump into this mud bucket and let the glittering slop consume you!
