Spoon - Do You

Spoon return with a excessively catchy, strum-heavy new single. Sounding like the beginning half of Smashing Pumpkins 1979 hook, with a familiar, masterfully sharpened Spoonish melody. I feel like Spoon are sometimes overlooked simply because their name is so unassuming. Yet, they're one of the most consistently well produced, thoughtful rock-n-roll song writers in the game, today. Do you, dare?:

Ariel Pink featuring Jorge Elbrecht - Hang On to Life ( Official Video)

"Hey man, what's the latest?" Well, its actually this new video for that sweet new Ariel Pink and Jorge Elbrecht song, that was also directed by Elbrecht himself. Wow, really? Yes, I'm not kidding, it's actually quite good. Hmmm, oh yeah? Well what the heck's it about? About? Well...it's not really about anything lol. Oh... Yeah, see its just a lot of fun and interesting visual imagery: there's like a hazy, smokey filter thing going. And like Jorge and Ariel, and the bassist from Haunted Graffiti all hanging around in some dimly lit place, when all of the sudden we see this great big lab (as in the dog) come out of nowhere. Wait, what the? No, but listen to me! Its actually very cool! And then the dog starts shaking in slomo when the song gets really going with harmonies and everything. Wow that does sound pretty neat. It is. Well where can I check this out? Right here! Just look bellow, duh!! OHHHH, there it is, awesome!

Summer Camp - Fresh

Long have I been in the Summer Camp camp, knowing the Londoners were capable of producing another strong single, after those first few mysterious tracks they released a few years back. Welcome to Condale, their first proper LP was a significant step above the production level of their early material, yet unfortunately it was a complete misstep. The songs were still licked with a familiar 80s-pop sheen, but they lacked the warmth and ear pricking quality one experiences when hearing something new and interesting for the first time, that you could find on something like Ghost Train. Fittingly titled, Fresh, has a reinvigorated sound, that sheds the group's drab dabbling into plasticized pop production, and returns them to more a original tonality. Laying on a heavily orchestrated string sample, Summer Camp have created their first true dance single, with an excellent combo of their usual echo-y vocal cooing and a joltingly funky bass-line (reminiscent of Tango In the Night-era Fleetwood Mac). This is easily one of the best songs of this summer, and one of those wonderful Indie-pop gems that you won't soon forget.

Parisian Goldfish

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with Mikey on this one..new Kanye is maybe his best material to date, with innovative production and interesting pop songs that i feel are taking a lot of heat for not being typical dance songs, or hip hop anthems. Anywho with that self righteous garbage out of the way, I'm going to have to go ahead and uh-gree with Mike on a previous song he turned me onto. This video has made pitchfork's top 40 vids of 08 and to be honest I'd put it at number one. Hynotic dance floors and sum bodacious dancin make this joint a top notch burnah. Not to mention the 2 superstar dancers(surprisingly unknowns) bust some moves that I don't think even Beyonce could top in her new vid (scroll down if you have yet to see this cinematic gem as well). Yup, this video did come out earlier in the year but its the time for recappin and I hope my colleagues will join in the festivities over the next few weeks of bringin back some oldies but goodies of the past year. Well heres the video, the songs by Flying Lotus, the tune is Parisian Goldfish, check it:
