Lust For Youth - Sudden Ambitions (video)

Here's a new clip from the Swedish darkwave connoisseurs, Lust for Youth. Preparing for their new LP, Compassion, out tomorrow, LFY have been peppering the web with infectious singles. Sudden Ambitions, feels very Lust For Youth. The mid tempo appregiators, the baritone drawl, and trebbly bass reminiscent of New Order, are all hallmark qualities of recent tracks from the group. What makes Lust for Youth most interesting is not their effortless ability to recreate goth-pop music from the 80s, but more their continued production of solid, head-bob worthy, pop tunes. The vacancy left in their music allows for icy stabs to really undulate through the melody, and singer Hannes Norrvide’s voice to command the listeners attention. This is a group that will surely continue to grow its audience. I'd watch for them to be playing much larger stages this summer and into the future. The video here has a very Tough Alliance vibe, with shadowy projections against the band, and a fascination with team swiming. Have a gander:

New Order - Tutti Frutti (Hot Chip remix)

Hot Chip spin one of New Order's latest tunes into a web of truth and club-banging. Lying somewhere between Pet Shop Boys and Giorgio Moroder, Tutti Frutti is an extra fun dance track with expansive synths and intricately laced drum samples. Like a sticky, dry-ice cloud enveloping the dance-floor, Hot Chip have deconstructed the track and rebuilt it stronger, and heavier. Like an extended Depeche Mode cut or the danciest breakdown off Kid A, this remix carries on with a hypnotic pulse, not unfamiliar to Disco, and Darkwave, but what else should we expected? It IS Hot Chip. Dude. Get into the groove:

Actors - Let It grow (video)

Canadian Nouveau Romantics, Actors unsheathe a new clip for their latest Darkwave single, Let It Grow. An intimate portrait of skin, with touches of S&M eroticism, this video is a series of intriguing images. Good looking young folk decide to dabble in whips, knives, leather and their own teeth, As we get up-close and personal with their bright white faces, and backs, and necks...lots of necks. Have a gander at this one, but careful! It verges of NSFW!!!! ..Dope song too..

Nadastrom - House Shoes

Like an unhinged light bulb flickering between its loose connection to the bedside lamp, Nadastrom's House Shoes is filled with a half light that oozes unease and fractured darkness. Ethereal whispering is not an under utilised trick within Modern Disco/ Darkwave music, yet here it is put to use to such an effective degree, that you will be mumbling the hook long after the song has ended. (Uhhh Elizabeth Fraser much?) Diggin it:

Ariel Pink - Picture Me Gone (video)

Mr. Pink's latest is a Darkwave, bass-heavy, ballad; chronicling a bizarre past relationship kept hauntingly present through the omnipotent lens of modern technology. The video is fittingly off putting, with 3 women (men?) clad in rubber masks, going about their lives (smoking through their eye-holes, ice skating etc). We gain a glimpse at each woman's true desire, but what really comes of it? I guess when you think about it we're all wearing the visage of a forlorn woman. At the end of the clip one of the characters begins to pull off their mask, only to be cut off by the end of the song - does she ever actually remove the mask? Do any of us?? Picture me blond.. I mean gone..

Lace Curtain - I Can't Wait (video)

Here's the Darkwave leaning single+ video for Lace Curtain's I Can't Wait. Like early Ministry or Visage, Lace Curtain slink around some icy synths and choppy guitars lines. It's familiar territory, tread by new horses and def worth yore thyme!

Whistlejacket - March Hare (video)

Never heard these guys before, but if you believe in listening to things for like the first time then listen up. Whistlejacket have a swirling Chameleons meets a spacier Holograms sort of sound that the really keys me up. Its like gaze-d out Darkwave, from London where the only that matters is a muthafkn phaser. Dig:

Blood Orange - Uncle Ace (a/jus/ted Remix)

Blood Orange's crypto-sexual subway ode gets a Darkwave re-imagining, by way of a/jus/ted. big A churns Uncle Ace's Disco leanings into throbbing grime-synth thrill-pop. Its a soundscape to the sulfur-scented shadows, that linger in the back alley behind the club. You know what i mean:

Psychemagik - Black Noir Schwarz

Master class UK deejays, Psychemagik unload a Caterpillar 797B of track onto our fragile human skulls. Psychemagik are like the best at remixing old tunes, but here they deliver an original composition that hovers somewhere between Darkwave, Deephouse, and Techno. Repetition and icy robotics are at the heart of Black Noir Schwarz, a song that sounds like a collaboration between Kraftwerk and Gesaffelstein...sorta. This is a serious club banger:
