Beverly - South Collins (video)

Thick and foggy, Beverly's latest single is pure guitar pop at its best. Like a sleepier Paula Cole song, played near an idling chainsaw, this tune is both delicate and jagged. There are hints of Lush here, yet less of the psychedelia and more of the moonscaped pop. It would be easy to label a song like this as shoegaze, but it feels much more like a forgotten cut off Gish, or Belong. While everyone waits for the summer club bangers to trickle onto the net, its nice to grasp onto some serious rawk. The video captures a jaded songstress dealing with heartbreak in a rural town. Slow-motion shots of hip locals at the bar and fall folliage take on an almost sinister vibe here, though its hard to place quite why. Take a look and have listen right here:

Shocking Pinks - Double Vision Version (video)

Cryptic and sensual, Shocking Pinks, latest single is the sort of song you crave from a group like this. Double Vision is quite literally two competing tonal themes working harmoniously together. The drums erupt in stuttering bursts, reminiscent of Kanye's Paranoid, before giving way to an infectious, off kilter bass groove. It seems like the beginning of a stark disco track, but before long the whole tune is echoing with liquid guitars and synths. This combination of dance music and atmospheric sounds is nothing new for Shocking Pinks, its simply that it works so well here. This is a tune I can't get enough of, and whether there is another version of Double Vision or not, this is only one that matters. Its time to let go of the winter and slink in the Spring, and what better way to do so than with this mopey, club banger:

The Chemical Brothers - Wide Open ft. Beck (video)

Long running Big Beat Mancunians, The Chemical Brothers finally put forth a clip for their reinvigorated single Wide Open. Wide Open, in typical Chemical Brothers' fashion is expansive with its sound, as large square and saw synth tones punctuate a melody around Beck's voice. The vibe here is far from abrasive, with a warm, repetitive progression that recalls Royksopp, or Gui Boratto. The video is a stirring visualization of dancer's metamorphosis from a human, to a porous elasticated being. It's a slightly unnerving transition from organic to synthetic person, yet the dancer's elegant movements remind us that she has remained human, despite such drastic change. Its a scene that brings to mind the film, Ex Machina, where a robotic woman endeavors to discover her true place among the human race and in the end still falls somewhere between man and machine (even after globbing on bits of skin to cover-up her metal parts). Beck, who's disconcerted drawl is typically associated with guitar based songs, lends himself perfectly to this mid-tempo electronica, using his voice as an almost extra layer of instrumentation, rather than a stand-alone part of the song. It's really a gorgeous track, with an addictive quality not unlike Julian Casablancas's work with Daft Punk. Check it now:

Tinashe - Player (video)

Amazingly choreographed and super sexy new clip for Tinashe's unforgettable new single. The somehow still under-head/underplayed Tinashe finally has a video for one of the best songs of the year. All of her release are great (I'm super siked for Joyride)! If you're a fan of Pop music, but haven't invested much time with Tinashe, then do yourself a favor RN!!! Check the vid here, ft Chris Brown and ton of acrobatic dancing.

Deerhunter - Breaker (video)

Deerhunter continue to breathe life into a somewhat stagnant pool of music being produced this year. 2015 has been chalked full of impressive releases and yet, sadly, there continues to being a plethora of utter schlock rattling around the net. Well, the schlock stops here. Deerhunter a band that progressively continues to progress and will probably prove to be a group of truly propulsive pop prospectors, drop this song, a hot new single that will force you to keep pressing play. Breaker is the amalgam of all things Deerhunter; with a hook and tonality that somehow seems to transcend all of their past work at the same time. It is a song that is equal parts Orange Juice and Fleetwood Mac, with extra touches of Dream Pop and modern Indie guitar music. Melting 6 strings peel away, beneath a street walkin bass. The hook erupts with a crescendo of duelling harmonies that could make Grizzly Bear jealous. There's also a dreamy Pumkins'esque bridge that allows the song to drift slightly, if only for a moment, before being sucked back into place by that unforgivably kept bass. The frontier may be fading, but the boys of DH are still shining bright. Check it:

Tamaryn - Cranekiss (video)

The quintessential combination of the two words Dream and Pop reach a pinnacle, with this perfect tune. Cranekiss is another breezy, yet driven single, from ona-roll Gaze Queen, Tamaryn. Pitch bent guitars, flangey bass, the sparkling hint of an icy synthesizer; they're all carefully laid to bed beneath Tamaryn's delicately-drugged-out croons. Like Pale Saints meets Ulrich Schnauss, but better. I seriously just played this one 4 times over. You'll be craning not to miss!

Leon Bridges - Smooth Sailing (video)

Here's a clip for Leon Bridge's latest, super sexy, Soul single, Smooth Sailing. Bridges, a proven connoisseur of all things 1962/ old-school Motown, dives deep into the well of OG R&B, for another undeniable tune. The video is simple and captivating. The man himself, clad in green, with a band encircled around him. Even Bridge's dance moves and how he abstains from touching the mic, harkens back to Little Richard, or Ben E. King. Its Smooth Sailing baby, and you better get on board.

Actors - Let It grow (video)

Canadian Nouveau Romantics, Actors unsheathe a new clip for their latest Darkwave single, Let It Grow. An intimate portrait of skin, with touches of S&M eroticism, this video is a series of intriguing images. Good looking young folk decide to dabble in whips, knives, leather and their own teeth, As we get up-close and personal with their bright white faces, and backs, and necks...lots of necks. Have a gander at this one, but careful! It verges of NSFW!!!! ..Dope song too..

Tinashe - All Hands on Deck(video)

Tinashe is still reppin her 2014, awesome, LP Aquarius, even as she has just released a whole new set of songs on her latest EP. All Hands On Deck is a minimal tRap + B sortof tune, with a slinking synth lead underlaid with icy sleaze. Probably one of my favorite tunes from 014, AHOD surfaced in a post-Fancy, pre-BBHMM world, fitting nicely into the current Popisphere. This track deserves more play. Oh yeah, also this video is insane. Redefining risque storage container steppin. Feel it:

Chastity Belt - Time To Go Home (video)

Here's a sleepy rocknroll jam from sum rocknroll chix. Whether scopin soccer dudes, dancin in the club, drinkin beer, or dancin in the club (w/ Macklemore) Chastity Belt keep it real. There's an obvious reference to other grungy, fuzz pop girl groups here, (IE Vivian Girls, Speedy Ortiz) but Chastity still spit their own sorta blend of high-till-we-die guitar music. If it really is time to go home, these ladies ain't goin nowhere.

Grimes - REALiTi (video)

This is a new Grimes song. Apparently its not on her new album. Poss because its too poppy? Its hard to say why she would leave this tune off a new LP, unless all her other tracks are way doper, but this is a serious club banger. Jittery stabs and the unmistakable wisp of Grimes's voice are present, as is the grimey synth used for Better Off Alone. This is a throbbing, club-next-door sort of track, where you feel like you're just missing the melody or something, but then you listen and you're like oh yeah there it is, right under my nose! Also this is fantastic vid, which we should all expect from Grimes these days. Dancing in weird, hidef environments its totally her jam. And it totally werks. Get it done:

Sunflower Bean - 2013 (video)

Psychedelic Jangle spanglers, Sunflower Bean, are on some kind of roll and ain't no one kickin em off. Just saw their write up in The Voice (worth reading) and so its time we mention them here. Like the love child of Felt, Vivian Girls and possibly Spacemen 3, SB are genre mashers of the highest pedigree. Spinning weaves of intricate, chorus laden guitar, beneath bewitching basslines and hair-raising drum clatters, this is the type of shit I'm tryina hear. Vocally comparative to other C86ers, Sunflower keep their psychedelics grounded with focused pop melodies and harmonies. Check this out, right now:

Broken Social Scene - Golden Facelift (video)

The end of last year saw the release of several significant songs, one of them being this previously unreleased track from Broken Social Scene. This somber ballad lies somewhere between New Order and maybe Sonic Youth, climaxing in an epic clatter of yelps and distortion. Fittingly the clip features a reel of beautiful shots of life around the globe, juxtaposed with some of the most terrible things to have occurred in 2014. Its hard to look away, even during that yucky eyelid scene. Check it out, this one sucks you in:

Morgan Delt - Barbarian Kings (video)

Recently exposed to this mind-melding whirlwind. Morgan Delt makes Timothy Leary look like a child. This is is the most serious of Psychedelic. Like Black Moth Super Rainbow and Captain Beefheart turning down and chilling out. You gotta feel this man:

Panda Bear - Boys Latin (video)

Panda Bear's new single is a phasing Psych track, centred around a Dark Wave bassline and PB's recognisable harmonies. The tune has a slightly melancholic tinge to it, and therefore the video as well contains wisps of sadness, woven among its frames. Its a mesmerising animated clip, reminiscent of the colour pallet and landscapes displayed in Bjork's Wanderlust. A young man traversing the swampy in-lands of a coastal Somewhere is entranced, and then ensnared by some bewitching salt water anemone. Soon our hero is plagued by psychedelic skin lesions that only seem to lessen when he learns to accept the new sorry state of his body. There's a universal theme here that seems both otherworldly and all too familiar, and by the end all is well. Dig it:

The Drums - I Can't Pretend (video)

The best track off of The Drums latest record, Encyclopedia, got a clip back in October, but somehow I missed it (Oops!). As a duo, The Drums have given themselves more space to expand their ideas and sonic conceptions. Encyclpoedia is a far reaching album, with I Can't Pretend as its pinnacle Pop achievement. Its a track thats up there with some of their best, and therefore gets one of their best videos. The boys are shot in technicolor environments (aquariums, summery backyards, the old railroad tracks) where they meander about, with a chic complacency. Nothing really happens and yet you can't look away. Fish are always fun! And so are bubbles! Check it all out right here:

Mary J. Blige - Right Now (video)

Mary J has partnered with Disclosure and company, to re-up the mojo on her latest record and the results totally rule! The original Duchess of R&B, breaks it down UK style, with this twisted dance groove. Turns out MJB's soul-infused croons work perfect with Dub-leaning, Throw-back-House tunes, from across the pond. Were you looking for one last juicy club banger before the year ends? This is it. "All New, Zane Lowe Prem-e-uh on Radio 1!" (Similar to F For You, but like diff.)

Weirdo clip of Princess Chelsea inhabiting the hyper-surreal realm of a TrapperKeeper.

Johnny Marr - Dynamo (video)

One of the first Johnny Marr singles that seems quite listenable, gets the video treatment. Dynamo, like most modern Marr work is straight forward guitar pop, the difference here is that the chorus actually has a hook to it. Its hard to tread on someone like Marr, who stands alone as an untouchable god among men when it comes to song-writing. Yet, his most recent efforts have seemed slightly slipshod, or at least not up-to-snuff. Like many elder Rock statesmen, we expect the very best, and very rarely get it. With Dynamo we do not get anything Smiths-like or even Electronic-like, but more a soaring anthem in the vein of The Verve or Smashing Pumpkins. There's a 90s Brit-pop theme to this song and it works. Marr is no crooner, but he can still carry a tune, letting the hook lie in the harmonies to an effective degree and of course his 6-string shredding is nothing to yawn at. So here you are, Dynamo:

Belle and Sebastian - The Party Line (video)

Belle & Sebastian have released one of their catchiest singles in years and now there's a video. The Disco leaning, Saint Etienne indebted dance track has a wonderfully shot clip of some pretty young things out on the town. Its super fun to be young and hot (in the 1970s), until that dude you're mad into ends up with another chick! (Ughhhhh). Mondo bummer, but hey this be B&S, and not some other BS.
