The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Simple and Sure

New TPOBPAH slides in a slightly different direction than we're used to with the gang. Simple and Sure really steps along a tightrope strung between early 2000s Indie Pop and Blue Eye Soul. For some reason this metamorphosis reminds me of the transformation seen between Aztec Camera's early work and later work. For Pains I think this could be a positive shift that allows them escape the confines of Twee or Shoegaze. Happy Frozen Friday:

Night Flowers - Embers

Night Flowers are Shoegaze(Emogaze?), Indie Pop newcomers with a whole lotta pep! Cross breed The Pains of Being Pure At Heart with Saves The Day(?), and you may grow some Flowers of the Night. They're a group that revels in fuzz, while not letting the popiness of their harmonies get lost in the process. My guess is these young'ns will really start to bloom as Spring begins to unfold ;)

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Belong

The new video for TPOBPAH is a real trip down memory pane. The Pains haven't put out an album since 2011, so this clip is sorta a blast from the past.. on numerous levels. Proving that not everyone does look good in make-up, the band puts together a their best Cure-meets-Pumpkins-meets-Weezer look for a totally 90s stage(d) performance of Belong. It's a fun vid, and brings to mind the latest from Dum Dum Girls, which also rips visuals from the hey-day of Alt videos. So tune in here! And get your fuzz on:

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Terrible Friend (Washed Out Remix)

Brooklyn Twee-poppers, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart get the glo-fi treatment with a recent remix by the tropical-sunset-soundtrack pioneer, Washed Out. Earnest (WO) spaces out an already reverb heavy track with a load of side-chain, throbbing synths and some cloudy vocal effects. To be honest this version of the track appeals to me a lot more than the original. This cut comes from a forthcoming remix EP by TPOBPAT, to be released on Record Store Day. Check it:

Don't Check Me Out

Brooklyn-gazers, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, hit us with a brand new bedroom-video. The clip actually takes place in a bedroom and gets little bookish and skeletal at time. The group are crammed into a bed, or dimly lit room here, tossing around novels and skulls, truly the best visuals for "Young Adult Friction."
