The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Belong

The new video for TPOBPAH is a real trip down memory pane. The Pains haven't put out an album since 2011, so this clip is sorta a blast from the past.. on numerous levels. Proving that not everyone does look good in make-up, the band puts together a their best Cure-meets-Pumpkins-meets-Weezer look for a totally 90s stage(d) performance of Belong. It's a fun vid, and brings to mind the latest from Dum Dum Girls, which also rips visuals from the hey-day of Alt videos. So tune in here! And get your fuzz on:

Blouse - No Shelter

Shedding their early snyth-pop structures for a more standard 60s guitar sound, Blouse is returning with a new single. No Shelter still contains the echoing reverb that swallowed most Blouse's early material, yet now they lean more towards the sound of Nico or the c86 groups. This is a catchy tune, but really it sounds a bit like a Dum Dum Girls' B-side, with a Nirvana'd out bridge. Check it:

Reading Rainbow

C86 girl groups are so hot right. Vivian Girls, Warpaint, and other shit like that is dominating the Brooklyn drone-pop scene. I think my fav of these gangs is Dum Dum Girls. They still have simplistic 3 chord strumming, but their sound much more lush. The vocalist drops her voice a few registers, which gives band a really nostalgic feel that maybe, some of the other, similar groups don't quite attain. Peep these guys in action at Brooklyn's Bruar's Falls:
